Unfortunately, almost everyone will experience some form of back pain in their lifetime. Back pain is one of the most common reasons why people seek out a chiropractor. Although back pain is common, it can make even the simplest activities difficult. The pain can range from slightly annoying to completely debilitating. Understanding the root cause of your back pain is a crucial step towards finding the proper treatment.
If painkillers don’t seem to help much, or you want to try something more natural, a chiropractor is your best bet. At Cornerstone Chiropractic, we look to find the root cause of your problem and determine if chiropractic care is the right approach.
Back pain can manifest differently from person to person. The pain may be localized to a specific portion of the back, or one could be experiencing a more generalized pain. The intensity of the pain also varies from person to person. Some of the signs and symptoms you should look for include:
While back pain commonly occurs due to dysfunction in the way the spinal joints, muscles, and nerves are working together, there are several factors that could be playing a role in your back pain.
The most common contributing factor to back pain is a dysfunction in the musculoskeletal structures of the back, including the spinal joints, muscles, and nerves. However, other factors could lead to lower back pain. Before combating lower back pain, you need to understand what could be causing your back pain in the first place. Common causes of back pain include
Chiropractic care focuses on the disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, and how they affect one’s general health. Chiropractors use spinal adjustments to help relieve areas of spine misalignment (subluxations), which affect the spine’s normal movement pattern. Chiropractic care has been around for over a hundred years and helps millions of people overcome various forms of pain without the use of medication.
If you’ve never been to a chiropractor before, you might be wondering what to expect on your first visit. It’s helpful to know exactly what to expect at your visit. Here are some things you can expect at your first appointment:
On your first visit, you will receive an initial chiropractic examination starting with a consultation and a case history, where we gather any important information that might be important for the diagnosis and treatment of your back pain. We will also perform a detailed physical examination and any necessary testing to determine exactly what is causing your back pain.
At Cornerstone, the technique we use is gentle and non-invasive, which makes it a great fit for a wide range of patients. There is no twisting, cracking or jerking of the spine. Our technique allows us to provide scientific and specific adjustments to address your back pain for long-lasting results. For some, an adjustment provides immediate relief, whereas for others, it may take several sessions to feel the effects.
After the adjustment, you might feel a soreness of the joints, but this should fade away within 24 hours.
Some of the recommendations you might get after your session include:
Unfortunately, many people let their back pain go uncorrected hoping that it will just go away on its own. This may be the case in some situations, however, in many cases the underlying condition still remains. Whether you are dealing with an acute issue or you’ve been experiencing chronic back pain for years; it is important to understand the underlying condition that is causing your back pain. Chiropractic care is a great, low-risk option for back issues. Stop living in pain! Give us a call today at (605) 540-4004.

Avoid lifting while bending over. Rather, bend at your knees while lifting and squat to pick up the object. Keep your back straight, holding the object close to your body. Push, rather than pull, when you must move heavy objects. If you must sit for long periods, take frequent breaks and stretch. Wear flat supportive shoes or shoes with low heels. Exercise regularly. An inactive lifestyle contributes to lower-back pain.
Back pain affects people differently. It may go away temporarily but will most likely return if there are underlying issues. Routine chiropractic care is essential to keep your spine in alignment.

Dr. Mike is personable and listens to his patients. My primary interaction with him was with one of my wrestlers that was tryin to get back on the mat after numerous surgeries. He tried and tried and continued to have problems with his shoulder. He was sidelined for a good portion of his senior year. Dr. Mike started working with him a couples days a week. This last for for about 8 weeks. He was ultimately able to compete and placed 3rd in the state tournament. What is truly unique is that he had gone to numerous other experts and the results were always the same. It was different with Dr. mike and so were the results. This guy does it right and gets results! I strongly recommend him.
