Person holding head due to Vertigo

Get Relief From Vertigo

40% of Americans will experience vertigo at least once in their lifetime. This condition can cause dizziness and balance issues, making it almost impossible to carry out the simplest tasks. Vertigo and other balance-related conditions can negatively impact every aspect of a person’s life.

This condition can occur due to a problem with the body’s vestibular system, which includes the cerebellum, an area of the brain that integrates motor control, coordination, and sensory perception. It can also affect the brain stem, vestibular nerve, and the structures of the inner ear. The vestibular system regulates the body’s orientation in space, posture, and balance.

People diagnosed with vertigo often seek chiropractic care to relieve their debilitating symptoms. At Cornerstone Chiropractic Health Center, our team offers a non-invasive treatment option that can help you manage your vertigo.

Vertigo Treatment

Vertigo is divided into two types:

  • Peripheral vertigo
  • Central vertigo

Peripheral vertigo is caused by Meniere’s disease, vestibular neuronitis, or benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.

Central vertigo may be caused by head injuries, strokes, migraines, infection or illness, brain tumors, or multiple sclerosis.

Other causes of vertigo include:

  • Certain medications like antibiotics and anticonvulsants
  • Trauma to the head and neck
  • Inflammation of the inner ear, also known as labyrinthitis.
  • Damage or pressure to the vestibular nerve, also known as neuronitis
  • Cardiovascular disorders
  • Vestibular migraine

Symptoms of Vertigo

Common symptoms associated with vertigo include:

  • Headaches
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Spinning sensation
  • Light sensitivity
  • Vomiting and nausea
  • Temporary hearing loss
  • Balance issues
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Pain or fullness in the ears

Not everyone with vertigo will experience the same symptoms. Symptoms will vary depending on the underlying cause. If you’re experiencing one or more of these symptoms, it is important to seek treatment as soon as possible.

Chiropractic Helping Patient

How Chiropractic Care Can Help With Vertigo

At Cornerstone Chiropractic Health Center, our chiropractors offer treatments that can relieve vertigo symptoms.  Depending upon the cause of the vertigo, treatments can range from gentle chiropractic adjustments to a series of therapies.

Adjustments will correct any misalignments in the spine, allowing the central nervous system to send and receive signals properly. When communication is restored between the brain and ears, an improvement in balance will follow.

If benign paroxysmal positional vertigo is the underlying cause of symptoms, a patient may benefit from the Epley maneuver. This technique repositions the crystals in the inner ear. A chiropractor will perform a series of position changes that restore the normal crystal position.

What to Expect At Your Chiropractic Appointment

Your appointment at Cornerstone Chiropractic Health Center will begin by meeting with your chiropractor to discuss your medical history and the symptoms you are experiencing.

Next, you will undergo a thorough examination to identify the root cause of the issue. Based on their findings, your chiropractor will create a unique personalized treatment plan that addresses your symptoms, balance issues, and the underlying cause of your vertigo.

Adjustments

During an adjustment, your chiropractor will use a small instrument or their hands to gently realign the spine. If the joints in the cervical spine are misaligned, the brain can misinterpret the information it receives from the body. Adjusting the cervical spine can improve joint function and reduce vertigo symptoms.

3

Post-Treatment Care

Your chiropractor may recommend treatment follow up treatments, to effectively help you manage vertigo. For the best results, consistent treatment is crucial.

Can Chiropractors Help With Inner Ear Dizziness?

Yes. Many patients have experienced a reduction in symptoms associated with inner ear dizziness, including nausea, vomiting, neck pain, headaches, and dizziness.

What Triggers Vertigo?

This condition is usually caused by issues with how balance works in the inner ear, however, it can also be caused by issues in certain regions of the brain. For example, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo symptoms can be triggered by certain head movements.
